Our Philosophy

Why a worship choir? Well, most would agree that a typical church service includes three important elements:

  1. Congregational worship
  2. A sermon
  3. An offering to pay for 1 and 2

Many aspects of cultivating a Christian lifestyle that we normally experience by attending a church could actually take place elsewhere - you could listen to a sermon on the radio, send in your tithe check (or these days, pay it online), and of course, conduct a Bible study in a home. Yet the corporate worship we experience in a service cannot be duplicated, unless you happen to gather friends and family for a sing-along.

Even the opportunities to watch a service on television or the Internet, or to listen to a CD, do not compare to live worship with other people singing around you.

This is something the writer of Hebrews knew, when he wrote in Chapter 10 how our worship of God is part of our covenant with God, and that meeting together helps us keep the covenant. This echoes Psalm 132:7 -- "Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool."

That said, two key thoughts emerge:

  • Congregational worship is not a concert - it's participatory.
  • Congregational worship should include everyone.

These two thoughts form the core reason why Treasure Valley Voices exists. Through a choir, we can model worship as a smaller "congregation" before a larger congregation, thereby drawing the larger congregation to follow suit. And, you will hear music from different genres, including time-honored hymns, recent choruses, classic anthems and most everything in between. The family of God is just that - a family of people with a variety of tastes and a variety of needs.

The key to making it all work is to do it well.

1 Corinthians 10:31 says that whatever we do, we should do it all for the glory of God. How can we then give Him anything less than our best effort?

One may not care for a particular song, but if that song is prepared and led with the same spirit of excellence as the one before it and the one after, one is more likely to say, "I found something in the service that ministered to my soul."

So, God created us to worship Him, yet we often find that in the midst of giving Him praise, He touches us in an incredible way. That's what we hope you will experience in a service with Treasure Valley Voices.
